El Charco
del Ingenio

Located a few minutes from San Miguel de Allende, El Charco del Ingenio is an extraordinary Botanical Garden and Nature Reserve. It has an extensive collection of cacti and other succulent plants from Mexico, many of them rare, threatened or in danger of extinction.

Organized civil society since 1991

Our mission is to protect and preserve biocultural heritage, developing an Ethnobotanical Garden dedicated to the conservation and study of regional flora, as well as the construction of an environmental culture in society.


Botanical collection

It is made up of species from the arid and semi-arid zones of Mexico, many of them rare, threatened or in danger of extinction.


Wildlife

The variety of topography and wet conditions offer a diverse and healthy sanctuary for wildlife.


Ethnobotany

With the support of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), research is carried out to rescue knowledge about the use of plants in the region, thus revaluing our biocultural heritage.
